The Mini SBT with Oshima-san, a regular collaborator, is next up with Sample B. (Contents below are from a blind tasting session.) ・Mini SBT from Oshima-san Sample B Aroma: Pineapple, tree sap, oil, apricot jam, good maltiness, cream, rich and long-matured notes, strong roasted barley, strong woodiness. On the palate: Moderate stimulation, fragrant and rich, ripe fruits like pineapple and peach, apricot jam, tree sap, jam-like sweetness with good tannins, mint, rich finish, barley umami, overall sherry nuances wrapping around, subtle peat in the background. [Good/Very Good] The tropical fruitiness reminiscent of older Duncan Taylor or recent German bottlings like Agency is prominent. Similar impressions were felt with Glen Grant from German bottlers or CAPERDONICH's 1972 vintage. Approximately 50%, distilled in the early 1970s, bottled recently, refilled sherry cask, matured for 40 years. ・Prediction 1. Glen Grant 2. CAPERDONICH 3. Longmorn Also considered Benriach. Based on the above tasting and predictions, I sent a reply email. The correct answer was... CAPERDONICH 1972-2011 39yo MALTBARN 55.6% One of 73 bottles, Ex-sherry butt This was CAPERDONICH 1972 released in 2011 by German bottler MALTBARN. Coincidentally, this was also a bottle that appeared in a previous blind tasting from Adamo-san. Distinguishing between German bottlers' Grant and CAPERDONICH, sister distilleries, is often challenging for me, but this was largely as predicted. Compared to the previous one, it felt more fruity. It was delicious. Despite CAPERDONICH 1972 having many similar tasting notes from German bottlers and Duncan Taylor, it has recently become much less common. Bottlings from this era often had many bottles of the same specs released in a short period, then suddenly disappeared. CAPERDONICH 1972 is one of the typical examples. #CAPERDONICH (CAPERDONICH) #SBT
